About

Julie Swanberg-Hjelm
Individual & Couple Therapist

I have always found deep satisfaction in seeing others live fulfilling and meaningful lives, and have a profound appreciation for those who have let me walk beside them as they journey there. That is what led me to my professional career as a therapist. I have had the pleasure of working with people from all walks of life, and am continually amazed by the beauty of what makes each and every one of us unique. Julie Hjelm-10

  • In addition to a Ph.D in Marriage and Family Therapy, I have training in Asperger Syndrome/High Functioning Autism (Asperger’s Syndrome), and Executive Functioning skills. I apply this information to both the individual and the couple systems. I use a variety of approaches when working with my clients including:
  • As a wife, parent, and couple’s therapist, I understand first-hand the challenges people can face in a relationship. My work with couples is based on the Bowenian Family Systems Theory. Each person is given space for personal growth and development. As the individual’s differentiation develops, the couple learns new ways of interacting.
  • I understand that each couple has a unique dynamic. I am trained to work with couples who struggle with a variety of the challenges associated with Anger, Anxiety, and Asperger’s Syndrome.

Julie graduated with her Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northcentral University. She works with youth, individuals, families, and couples who are in distress due to anxiety, anger, or High Functioning Autism. Her goal is help clients find new ways of understanding the past and present to create a brighter future.
